The restaurant was taken over by the new crew in 2007 and is offering delicious Viennese and international food at sensitive prices. I is located in the very center of Vienna between the Hofburg, the Burgtheater and the Herrengasse with its abundance of Baroque feudal mansions. Bankgasse, where the dive is located at No. 2 hosts also the stunning newly refurbished Palais Liechtenstein and the Hungarian Embassy with it’s renowned rococo interiors. Just opposite Zoltan Röszler’s sartorial workshop the joint is located in the basement of the Palais Batthyany. Open from 9:00 to 23:00 (kitchen serving 11:30 – 14:30 and 18:00 – 22:00) from September to June it entertains the governmental and newspaper quarter’s hard pressed gourmets with an exquisitely prepared menu. This Thursday’s Mittagskarte - the judiciously priced noon carte du jour featured minestrone and fried trout with spinach and parsley potatoes for 10.50 Euros and minestrone and spinach with roasted potatoes and fried egg for € 8.90 ! The meals go together with crus of some of Austria’s best wine-growers such as the Grüner Veltliner of Bründlmayer or Markowitsch’s Zweigelt Rubinum Carnuntum.
Lunching al fresco is offered from July to September in the picturesque garden. Deplorably, however, the Giorgina closes at 16:00 from June through August, and is closed on weekends and holidays.
